Ignite Social Media: Why it’s worth devouring Meatball Sundae by Seth Godin

  • NaturalWoman · 1 year ago
    Jim,

I read "Meatball Sundae" on a flight this week as well. I completely agree. It's well worth a read. For me, what really sold it was Godin's point about how organizations which are successful in new media adopt a consumer-focused mentality from top to bottom (or bottom to top). However, the reality is that very few companies are willing to make serious changes in their business. In short, they look at it as just another channel. Great book and nice review!

Jim I had the same response and I would picked almost the same paragraphs from the book - I just love that "C’mon in, the water’s fine."

This book was a real shock for me, we are currently setting up a social media agency in Greece (htttp://www.paperplane.gr, sorry currently only in Greek) and helped us to form our message.

I think New Marketing the way that Seth Godin evangelizes through his book, is what Social Media should be focused on, making even harder for us the task to talk about it. Because now we are talking about a total rethinking of the way businesses doing business. Its gonna take some time !

I am not sure what you are listening while trying to talk about all this stuff on the other side of Atlantic, but here we have a long road ahead of us. Let me know what you are thinking about it.

Thanks for the great overview of the book Jim - it is definitely on my reading list. We're at a point where companies are beginning to see the worth and merit of social media marketing strategies but does that mean it's right for every single thing? Of course not.

    Hoping to read this soon!

@Panos: We have a long road ahead of us here too. More often I get people who think we've deciphered a magic elixir for a not very interesting product.

But those who get it, they will benefit!

    Thanks for the comments everybody.
